MYP AREAS OF INTERACTION

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a challenging and interesting course of study. It asks the student to take responsibility for their learning, to work and cooperate closely with others and to explore new ways of understanding and enquiring into the world around them. The MYP aims to do more than allow the student to progress in the different subjects they study. This is why the programme is founded on three main principles: holistic learning, communication and intercultural awareness. The MYP wants the learner to make connections: between subjects, between people, between how they act and how their actions affect others. Connections between the school and the wider community are important. The ultimate aim of the MYP, and our ultimate aim at the ISH, is to help the student prepare for life.
In order to allow the student to explore how what they study is connected to real life, they study subjects through the five Areas of Interaction:
*** Approaches to Learning (ATL) *** Community and Service (CS) *** Environments (ENV) *** Health and Social Education (HSE) *** Human Ingenuity (HI)
Under the recent 'what's goings on' line the Environments notice board is showing signs of activity......
Along with the forthcoming Natural Phenomena Film Competition we have ventured into a wormery. The tiger worms live in a plastic box in front of the Environments notice board. They are fed the occasional rotting organic matter provided by the staff and students. The worms eat this turning it into high quality fertilizer. Work will begin soon on sowing new crops at the back of the school and this year floating vegetable islands are planned for the pond at the front of the school.
There has been an attempt at raising awareness about the amount of plastic we dispose of in the school. At the moment the task has yet to be taken in hand. What kind of plastic can we recycle and where do we dump it ? This will all need to be arranged through the cleaning services, the canteen and the Gemeente.
