Dear Parents,
Sometimes, organizations celebrate together, and sometimes they mourn a loss: as you learned last week, Dr. Malcolm Davies passed away, our Subject Area Leader for the Arts, Director of the ISH Music school, Professor at the University of Leiden but first of all popular teacher of Music and respected colleague.
In this issue, we capture some aspects of his rich life. On 12 March, we will hold a memorial concert in the theatre. He will not be forgotten: he did not just work here, he was an educator in the best sense of the work, leading his students to enjoy and practice music. Our choirs, orchestra, bands and the over 200 weekly individual music lessons, held here at ISH, are based on Malcolm’s initiative. I invite you all to join us then.
Results of the ISHHelpsHaiti initiative are in this issue – before you click deeper, let me thank the “front woman” of this project, Mrs. Jutta Clarke, for the wonderful work she did in support of one of the poorest countries in the world.
Our life here in a wealthy environment seems to provide different opportunities for a few of our students: this week, one iPod touch has been found (not claimed yet) and another one lost or stolen (sorry, not the same one). If such an – by you -unidentified object finds its way to your home, could you please pass it on to the office and talk to your child about the concept of property. As we do via mentors, could you please remind your children that the place to store expensive equipment is either the locker or the desk at home.
Best wishes for a restful break.
